Daniel Leschot, the blacksmith appreciated by the village of Orvin
Daniel Leschot is thus the ancestor of all people named Léchot who are citizens of Orvin. What to say about him? Finally almost everything that we know about this person is written in his citizenship. He was thus a blacksmith. He came from La Chaux-de-Fonds (Canton of Neuchâtel, at this time: "Seigniory of Valangin, Ground of his Highness of Longueville"). We do not know his date of birth and marriage. He married Marguerite Grosjean, daughter of Jean Grosjean from Orvin. He was awarded naturalized on December 27th, 1660. His children were Abraham, date of birth unknown, David and Jean born in 1666, Jean-Jacques born in 1672, Louys also born in 1672 and Marguerite born in 1678. He was "Ambourg", that is to say responsible for finances of the citizen's community or citizen's administration in 1678 and 1693. From 1682 to 1684, he was "Master of Church", responsible for Holy Communion in the Reformed and Protestant Church of the village. He was living from his business as a blacksmith. It seems that he was a famous personality and was a rich owner of land so much in Orvin than in Les Prés d'Orvin (area above Orvin). He lived in the forge, which his son David sold in 1714. We know that Daniel died between July 12, 1702 and April 1703.
